Flemish Giant www.bunnyblab.com/podcasts/FGnDog.jpgThe Flemish Giant gets to be at least 11lbs, and is one of the largest breeds of rabbit in the world. No one is sure exactly where this breed originated from. Flemish Giant's are nicknamed ''Gentle Giants'' as the majority are very laid back and friendly. Their size can cause problems, they have a shorter life span then smaller breeds, usually only getting to around 5 years, though some life longer and some life shorter. They also need much larger accomadation then a smaller rabbit. If you wish to own a Flemish you will most likely have to build your own hutch/cage as very few, if any hutches/cages on the market suit the Flemish Giant. Of course, this breed of rabbit also eats much more then your average rabbit. Though they do eat the same foods as other rabbits, but just need more of it per KG of their weight. Here is the breed standard according to the British Rabbit Council, if you are interested in breeding and showing this breed www.thebrc.org/flemish.htmArticle by Grace

Can anyone tell me do they mind being kept alone or would they prefe to be in pairs? Flemish giants, like all rabbit breeds, prefer to be kept in pairs or groups. Again, like all rabbits, the two rabbits should be neutered/speyed for at least six weeks before being bonded together. Male/female pair works best but two males and two females can also work depending on personalitys. I have a beautiful flemish giant girl, who I am hoping to spey soon and bond her with my neutered dwarf Cooper.

I have one Flemish giant Doe paired with a little dwarf doe. Both not neutered and still happy.

Hi This is very confusing, the BRC website lists the Flemish Giant as being only one colour -Steel and was a breed developed in England in the last century. It also lists the Continental Giant rabbit as being the largest breed of domestic rabbit at up to 25 pounds weight, I suspect that what you have referred to as a Flemish Giant is infact the Continental Giant although if only reaching 11pounds in weight is very small.

Steel is the only colour for Flemish Giant the BRC acknowledges. But they are in more colours available. Their are plenty of colours in plenty of breeds which the BRC not recognizes in the moment.

In the article I stated that it is ONE of the largest rabbit breeds, not THE largest rabbit breed, and like gritred said, steel is the only colour recognized by the BRC, but Flemish come in many different colours. Take care

I love the fact that the giant rabbit and the dwarf rabbit are friends. It must be fascinating to watch them together and they are both the same species. Gritred -Perhaps, you could send a photo of them here, if you get a chance sometime. Little and Large!

Sorry about the quality of the pic, it was taken with my phone. This is Titania, the Flemish Giant and her 2 friends in my Greentunnel. The other rabbit is a female Nethi cross Rex(fully grown) and Edward, the Guinea pig boar
